The Blinded Woman is a hostile female spirit in Fatal Frame. She was a resident of the Himuro Mansion, later being blinded by the Family Master, to serve a role during a traditional ritual. Although she successfully fulfilled her task, she became a victim of an upcoming curse later; as the final stage of another ritual resulted in an ultimate failure. Her corrupted spirit returned as a ghost, whether she is haunting the mansion seeking vengeance for her loss, or simply trying to find the next Blinded Maiden and Rope Shrine Maiden, is not known.

Biography

The Blinded Woman ghost had her eyes stabbed out with the Blinding Mask, after she was caught first during the Demon Tag Ritual, preceding the Calamity. Her role was to play the Oni (Demon) in a ritual, used to choose the next Blinded and Rope Shrine Maidens. Like many ghosts her spirit was corrupted by the Malice which made her aggressive, her corrupted spirit has wandered around the mansion ever since the Calamity in search of the next Blinded and Rope Shrine Maidens, crying "My eyes..." or "It's dark... it's so dark". Like the other ghosts she finally got to rest in peace in heaven when Miku Hinasaki broke the curse of the mansion, her presumed last sighting was when Miku saw the spirits ascending to heaven as orbs.

Battle

Unlike the other ghosts, she is always nearby Miku and it's nearly impossible to run away from her to a safe distance - otherwise she immediately attacks. There is an advantage, since her eyes are completely gouged out, she only reacts toward sound. If the player moves Miku very quietly she won't hear it (unless she's stood right next to her, when she seems to be able to hear her breathing), making it easier for Miku to attack.

Blinded — The blinded woman attacks Miku for the first time.

She seems to have a liking of hiding in walls and then attacking the character from them, this can make battles in close quarters e.g. the Mask Room difficult.

She also has a liking of teleporting, she seems to like teleporting right behind the character, so if she disappears the player must check behind Miku as most of the time she re-appears inches from her, which can be a bit of a shock if the player spin around quickly.

The player has to defeat the Blinded Woman throughout 7 confrontations overall.

Trivia

After her spirit is finally captured in the Demon Mouth, her last words were "Blinding Mask".
While she is only fully introduced during the 2nd Night, Blinded made her first appearance in the 1st Night as a vanishing ghost, she is found in the Rubble Room after getting the Black Carving, in front of the double doors.
She also appears as one of the possible ghosts appearing in the Haunted House Mode in Fatal Frame II: Deep Crimson Butterfly.
