A Fatal Frame shot is achieved when a ghost is in the midst of attacking, and the orb at the top of the camera glimmers red. This shot does the most damage and receives the most points out of the other 2 basic shots, being a normal shot, or a shutter chance. The effects of the shot propels the ghost and allows the player to get much more fatal frame shots by doing combos known as Fatal Time. In Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, a timer has also been added to indicate the amount of time the player has left to take their combo shots.
Certain power-ups such as the Fatal Lens can increase the duration of Fatal Frame shots.

- The name of this shot is the same name as the American release of 零～Zero～.
- The only ghost that does not get propelled from the Fatal Frame shot, or any other shot for that matter, is the Stroller Grandma and dolls like the Watashi.
