When I end it, I want to be wearing this kimono. It's the prettiest one that I own.

—Hiori before jumping off the waterfall

Hiori Magabuchi is a hostile female spirit from Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. She committed suicide by leaping from the top of the waterfall on Mt. Hikami, wearing her favorite kimono, with her final moment being watched by a Maiden of Black Water. Because she landed on her face when she fell, her face became seriously disfigured.

Tainted by black water, she among other ghosts now leads others into the mountain to die. One of those was Yukiho Tomine, who fled from Hiori's ghost only to find herself at the edge of a cliff with Hiori pushing her forward.

Etymology[]

  • The name Hiori means "scarlet, cardinal" (緋) (hi) and "weave, fabric" (織) (ori).
  • Hiori's surname Magabuchi means "composition" (曲) (maga) and "abyss, deeper pool" (淵) (buchi).
