The Immortal Flower (永久花, tokoshiebana) is a term that appears in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. It refers to shrine maidens who are sunk beneath the water of the Shadowspring and become pillars. The maiden gradually grow nearer to death as she remains in her reliquary filled with black water, but as long as she retains her sense of self she will retain her form. During this time, she will not age, said to be forever in the rift between life and death. The name comes from the wish for the maidens to retain their beautiful forms forever in the dark water, just like a flower blooming for eternity.
Memo[]
This term refers to the shrine maidens drowned in the Shadowspring as sacrifices. The maidens were shut in boxes filled with Black Water. The water brought them close to death and gradually eroded their bodies. But if their resolve was strong they would retain their physical form.
While in the caskets, being suspended between life and death, the shrine maidens would not age. Their beauty being immune to the effects of time inspired people to call them Immortal Flowers.
