The most significant feature that adorns Kureha's appearance is her long white hair. She and Itsuki Tachibana are the only remaining(s) who have pale tresses.
Kureha is a mature woman who wears a white kimono and and a golden Obijime tied around her torso. Above her Kimono is a dark robe embellished with crimson, white and golden blossoms.
Kureha only appears in the Haunted House mode in Fatal Frame: Deep Crimson Butterfly. She appears as a vanishing ghost in the Kureha Shrine if the player is willing to abandon Mayu Amakura and take the Long Road Home ending.
In the Haunted House mode, Kureha offers guidance to the players, around the time of the Hidden Festival, she allows the player to enter the lost house. By the end of each trial, she provides them a report that displays the strength of their sixth sense. The sole purpose of this game she presides is to study the human heart, and specifically the emotion of fear. Might she be bored of the land of the mortals, however, fear fascinates her.
- The name Kureha means "living" (暮) (kure) and "feather" (羽) (ha).
- Originally, Kureha was to play the role of Itsuki Tachibana in Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. However, the idea was scrapped and she appeared in the Remake game serving another role.
