Past[]

Born on the island to Sayaka and Soya, Ruka grew up in relative peace for the first few years of her life. Coming from the line of Guardians, healers and musicians on the island, Sayaka taught her daughter piano and the special melody that has been passed down their family.

Soya came from a long line of mask makers, and slowly detached himself from his family, which caused conflict between Sayaka and him. Ruka began to exhibit symptoms of Moonlight Syndrome after her father kept placing these masks upon her, claiming they were good for her. This result ended with her no longer recognizing his face when he turned to look at her. Desperate, Sayaka removed Ruka from the home and into Rogetsu Hall for treatment.

During her stay, she was experimented on for treatment, this included music therapy which seemed to be the most helpful, however, she said it made her remember horrendous things and all she wanted was her father.

It was during the eclipse that Ruka was kidnapped by Yo Haibara during the Rogetsu Kagura to be used in the forbidden Rite of Descent. Placed in ritual attire, a mask was placed on her face, cementing her role as an Organ for the dance.

The ritual ended in failure, once Sakuya’s face bloomed and the mask broke, the girls lost all of their memories. She and the other four girls were placed within a moon lit cavern as a way to help them, the hopes that the moon would purify them. The girls were there for two weeks before being discovered by detective Choshiro Kirishima. Once found the girls were returned to their families. However, Ruka and Sayaka fled the island, leaving Soya behind. Sayaka, growing ill from the stress, died not long after leaving the island.
