The Sacred Water, known in Japanese as Goshinsui (御神水, "sacred water"), is a consumable healing item found throughout the Fatal Frame series. It consists of a modern-looking distinctive glass bottle containing sanctified spring water.
Sacred water, when used, completely restores the player's health. Sacred water and Herbal Medicine are the only usable healing items, however, because of the water's dramatically more potent effect it is much rarer and more spread out. Sacred water can be used any time the player's health is not full through the Menu Screen. The water's effect also remains the same through all difficulty settings.
- The image of sacred water, along with those of most recurring items, was touched up in Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. The image used for the first three games consisted of a streamlined bluish bottle with a large worn label on one side. The newer design changed the bottle, making it more curved and clear, and decreased the size of the label.
- A number of springs and shrines in Japan are known to have purifying waters, some specifically claiming it to be goshinsui. Examples include the Mt. Tsurugisan springs and the Kibune Shrine in Kyoto.
