The Shadowspring is a term and location that appears in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. It is a huge spring of black water which acts as the gateway to the Netherworld. The Dark Sun shines constantly down upon it, illuminating the surface with the red glow of it setting. The lake is reachable via the Shrine on the Water.
When shrine maidens were ready, they would be sent to the shrine by boat in order to be sunk beneath the waters of the spring. The final fight with Ose Kurosawa also takes place here, one part beneath the water and another atop it.

The Dark Sun hangs in the sky above, illuminating the murky waters with its eerie orange glow resembling the dying rays of light at sunset. This light lures people towards it, until they vanish into the endless dark.
