Shigeto Haibara is a hostile male spirit in Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. He was the director of the Haibara Hospital on Rougetsu Island and father to Sakuya and Yo Haibara. He would perform experiments and research in hopes of finsing a cure for Moonlight Syndrome. These experiments included brain surgeries, placing patient's heads within barbed contraptions, and music therapy tests. Kirishima notes that the procedures were torturous and unethical. Shigeto became so fixated on find a cure after his wife's death and daughter's diagnosis.
His dedication led to him discovering the Rite of Descent and planned to make the ritual work. He got his daughter to be the Vessel, commissioned Soya Yomotsuki to make the Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, and have his son kidnap the girls needed to be Organs. However, the rite failed, causing immediate disaster with the death of the Rogetsu Kagura performers and causing Sakuya to fall into a coma. It wouldn't be for another two years that Sakuya would awaken, causing the Day of Tranquility.
Etymology[]
- The name Shigeto means "multilayered" (重) (shige) and "person" (人) (to).
- Shigeto's surname Haibara means "ash" (灰) (hai) and "field, plain" (原) (hara/bara).
Trivia[]
- He appears in two forms in the game; his vanishing ghosts represent him in his normal work attire, and in his one attacking appearance he is dressed in ritual attire, including a mask.
- Shigeto has one unique attack which involves him swinging his fan in an upward motion, shooting three pairs of two small white circular discs from the tips of his fan.
