The Shrine of the Ephemeral is a large shrine near the peak of Mt. Hikami. It is said to have been the central location of the mountain's religion, but not much is known about the shrine itself. The entrance was opened when the area was turned into a tourist spot, and tourists visited the worship hall to see the many hanging lanterns. Now that the cable car has been shut down it has been abandoned ever since. There are rumors that mummies of shrine maidens are enshrined inside, and on days when the fog is thick, people have claimed to see the Maidens of Black Water roam in the light of the lanterns. Miu Hinasaki visits this shrine in search of her mother.
