Hisame Kuze (久世冰雨 Kuze Hisame) is a hostile spirit from Fatal Frame III: The Tormented and one of the last four Handmaidens to serve in the Kuze Shrine. Among the last four Handmaidens, she was the last one to be chosen. Hisame is the most devoted of the three others and is willing to fulfill her duties no matter what. Like all other Handmaidens (excluding Amane) Hisame is not related to the Kuze family by blood. However, after being adopted by Yashuu Kuze to serve as the final Pacifier she is given the surname Kuze.
Appearance[]
Hisame's attire is the same as all other Handmaidens, a red and white priestess garb. Unlike the others, she is the only Pacifier with very long hair until her waistline. Her bangs fall to obscure the sight of her forehead. She carries a mallet and an impaling stake.
Biography[]
Along with the other Handmaidens, she had the duty of "pacifying" the Priestess' sleep during the Impalement Ritual. As she was considered the most dutiful of the four, she was entrusted by Yashuu with leading the order to kill Amane, by impaling her at the bottom of the Abyss.
Fate[]
After the Unleashing, the Rift began to engulf the Manor, and continued to spread in spite of attempts to contain it by sacrificing Shrine Carpenters. The Kuze Family mistress instructed Hisame to impale the remaining Pacifiers in the Enclosed Room. Hisame was the last to die at the manor after the Unleashing. She wrote in her diary that she would go to sleep "forever and ever". Her spirit continued to impale dolls on the wall. It is unknown if she committed suicide or if she died during the Unleashing.

Etymology[]
- The name Hisame means "ice" (冰) (hi) and "rain" (雨) (ame/same). When put together, her name means "icy rain" or "ice storm".
- Hisame's surname Kuze means "long time" (久) (ku) and "world" (世) (se/ze).

- She can be found in game in these rooms: Doll Altar North, Round Window Foyer, Projection Room and other random places throughout the manor.
- It is unknown how Hisame died, since it was only described in her diary that she would "sleep forever".
- In one of Rei Kurosawa's daydreams sequences, Rei is surrounded by four girls who all look like Hisame.
- A side-story concerning Hisame and the other Pacifiers is mentioned in the Zero 3 Comic Anthology. In the story, she wears a kimono with a butterfly design.
- Hisame can be distinguished from the other Pacifiers by her long hair.
- Hisame is one of the ghosts who appears in the Ghost Camera mode of Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir.
