Tattoocurse

Those dreamers touched by the Tattooed Priestess while wandering the Manor of Sleep become victims of the Tattooed Curse.

Causes[]

While anyone who enters the Manor of Sleep risks encountering the Tattooed Priestess and becoming a victim of the Tattooed Curse, some people are particularly susceptible.

People must have experienced personal loss from another's death in order to dream of the Manor of Sleep. However, those who:

  1. Survive significant tragedies resulting in the deaths of others, such as accidents, disasters, or crimes
  2. Feel a particularly intense draw to death, from a strong desire or belief that they should also be dead (either from survivor's guilt, feelings of responsibility, or from an exceptional attachment to the deceased)

are particularly vulnerable to the attraction of the Manor of Sleep due to the heightened pain and drastic feelings of loss. These painful emotions not only tempt a victim to enter and remain in the Manor of Sleep, but also draw the attention of the Tattooed Priestess.

"Clinical" Urban Legend[]

The profile of those most-susceptible means that many people are in recovery or in hospitals when they become victims of the curse. Due to the prevalence in hospital settings, The Manor of Sleep and Tattooed Curse have become urban legends that are whispered among those in psychiatry to explain the mysterious occurrences of hospitalized trauma survivor patients suddenly disappearing or being "spirited away".

Some attempts were made to document the phenomenon by interviewing patients:

Curse Progression[]

  1. Victims of the curse tend to have survivor's guilt after surviving a catastrophic event, or have been closely attached to someone who suffers.
  2. Soon after, the victim may begin to see visions of their deceased loved one and try to follow them. This is followed by them beginning to dream about the manor itself.
  3. Once they dream of the manor, they will be pursued by the tattooed woman.
  4. Upon awakening, the victim will begin to see a snake and holly designed tattoo begin to form on their bodies.
  5. After a few nights/weeks, the victim may begin to sing a lullaby while awake.
  6. Over time, the tattoo begin to spread across the body, causing the victim physical pain.
  7. As the curse progresses, the length of time the victim sleeps grows, eventually only staying awake a few short hours.
  8. Once the victim gets to the point of hardly waking, they will have the tattoo enter their eyes, causing their body to vanish and leave behind only dust.
