Watarai Residence is a setting in Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. It was the home of folklorist Keiji Watarai, who lived there while he studied the environment of Mt. Hikami. When Keiji was killed as a failed groom for Ose Kurosawa, his house was noted to have disappeared within the fog and only making sporadic appearances with spirits now infesting the interior.
Due to the mystique, however, it developed a reputation as a haunted house and was popular within several occult circles after a video of the house's interior circulated which ended with the cameraman being attacked by a ghost. The police took possession of the original video and presumably launched a fruitless search for the person. The video, however, did show that simplest way to reach the mansion is through an underground path from the Shrine of Dolls.
Ren Hojo and Rui Kagamiya would explore the mansion on two occasions, and they had also stated that as soon as they exited, the mansion disappeared once more within the mist.
